Queen Elizabeth is the queen of the United Kingdom of England and Northern Ireland. Upon her accession to the throne on 6th February, 1952, Elizabeth II was enthroned on June 2, 1953. She is the mother of the future king, Prince Charles, and the grandmother of the current king and his two sons, Princes William and prince Harry. Since she has been in power longer than any other British queen before her, she has felt extra pressure to keep her reign both modern and responsive to the changing public.
Early life;
Elizabeth Alexandra Mary, later known as Queen Elizabeth II, was born on April 21, 1926, in London to Prince Albert, Duke of York (later King George VI) and Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon. She received a private education at home and got her start in public service during World War II as a member of the Auxiliary Territorial Services. At the age of 25, Elizabeth was crowned Queen Elizabeth II in Westminster Abbey on June 2, 1953. On February 6, 1952, after her father King George VI passed away, Elizabeth became the monarch. For the first time in history, people all across the world were able to watch the pomp and circumstance of the coronation ceremony live on television.
Queen’s family life:
On November 20, 1947, in London’s Westminster Abbey, Elizabeth wed Philip Mountbatten (a family name he inherited from his mother’s monarch. After getting married in 1947, Elizabeth and Philip quickly started a family with the birth of their son Charles the following year and their daughter Anne in 1950. Elizabeth went on to have two more sons, Andrew in 1960 and Edward in 1964. Back in 1969, Queen formally anointed Charles as her heir by making him the Prince of Wales. The ceremony was watched by thousands of millions of individuals throughout the world.
Eventually rumors suggested that Charles’s family put pressure on him to marry Diana Spencer, who was 19 at the time (and later became known as Princess Diana). Numerous Londoners attended the wedding, and many more watched it on television. At the time, the public had a very positive view of the monarchy.
Era of Queen Elizabeth:
The Queen has been monarch for way too long than any other British monarch and is therefore universally revered and admired. As monarch, she has gone further afield than any before her, making numerous landmark trips around the globe. She has been a prominent leader for the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth through periods of unprecedented social change because of her strong sense of responsibility and her commitment to a life of service. Assisted by other royal family members, Her Majesty continues to carry out a busy schedule of engagements, including visits to charities and schools, hosting visiting Heads of State, and leading the nation in Remembrance and festive celebrations.
The Queen considers public and charitable service to be an integral part of her role. As Royal Patrons or President, the Queen is involved with more than 600 non-profits, military groups, professional associations, and public service agencies. These range from large, global organisations to niche groups operating on a regional or even national scale.
